The circumstances surrounding the death of Matthew Perry, the 54-year-old renowned actor who played Chandler Bing on the TV show Friends, still remain unclear. The coroner’s office has updated the online medical records. Further investigation is needed to determine the cause of death. Initially, the website indicated that the body was ready to be released to the family. Perry was discovered lifeless on October 28th, Saturday afternoon, in the jacuzzi at his residence in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles. It is speculated that he may have drowned, but there is no confirmation yet.

An autopsy has been performed, but the examiners are awaiting the toxicology reports to determine the cause of Perry’s death, as reported by the coroner’s office to CNN on Sunday. The completion of these reports may take several weeks.

The death of Matthew Perry: the investigation

While an autopsy has been conducted on the actor’s body, investigators and doctors are awaiting the results of toxicology tests. This waiting period could last for weeks, but it is necessary to either confirm or dismiss the hypothesis that the presence of any foreign substances may have contributed to Matthew Perry’s death. Currently, no evidence of drugs has been found at the actor’s home. However, Perry had a challenging life marked by periods of opioid addiction and alcoholism, which resulted in various medical complications. He had reportedly suffered from pneumonia, colon perforation, spent two weeks in a coma, used a colostomy bag for nine months, and underwent numerous stomach surgeries. The Los Angeles Police Department is still investigating Perry’s case.

A difficult life

Perry’s father had abandoned his family when he was a child, and he began drinking at the age of 14. By the time he got the role in Friends, he was already battling alcoholism, but his cast mates were understanding and supportive.

Matthew once wrote, “It’s like penguins: when one is sick or injured, the others surround and support him, circling around until the penguin can walk on its own. That’s kind of what the cast did for me”.

He had experienced a cycle of rehab and relapses, but the situation worsened in 1997 after a jet ski accident. As a result of his injuries, he started using opioid painkillers, eventually taking 55 pills a day. This took a toll on his health. In 2018, he suffered an intestinal perforation and was told that he had only a two percent chance of survival after being in a coma for two weeks.

The last post

Ironically, in his final Instagram post, Matthew Perry appeared submerged in a bathtub, wearing headphones for music. With the caption: “Oh, so hot tubbing makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.” Fans immediately connected the nickname “Mattman” to his desire to portray Batman.
